Sometimes Support Looks Like Therapy. Sometimes It Looks Like Finally Finding the Right Medication.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and while conversations around mental health are becoming more common, there’s still one part of the conversation that can feel confusing, intimidating, or honestly just exhausting: Medication support.

A lot of people know what therapy is supposed to look like. But figuring out medication? That’s a whole different world.

Questions like:

  • “How do I know if medication would even help?”

  • “What if I’ve tried medications before and hated how they made me feel?”

  • “Do I have to stay on them forever?”

  • “Who do I even talk to about this?”

Those questions are normal.

And the truth is, medication support should never feel cold, rushed, or transactional. It should feel collaborative. Safe. Thoughtful. Human.

That’s why we’re excited to share that Kodiak Counseling now has a nurse practitioner, Malia, on our team who can provide medication management and prescribing services!

For some people, therapy alone is exactly what they need. For others, medication can help create enough stability to finally breathe again, sleep again, focus again, or feel emotionally regulated enough to fully engage in life and therapy.

Neither path is “better.” Mental health support is not one-size-fits-all. And medication is not a failure. Sometimes your brain and body simply need additional support, just like any other part of your health might.

One of the biggest misconceptions we see is people thinking they have to be in crisis before they deserve help. That’s simply not true! You do not have to wait until everything falls apart. You are allowed to seek support because you’re exhausted. Because your anxiety feels too loud. Because your moods feel unpredictable. Because you haven’t felt like yourself in a long time.Because getting through the day feels harder than it should.

Mental health care is healthcare!

And during Mental Health Awareness Month, we want people in our community to know they have options. Real options. Compassionate options. Local options.

At Kodiak, we believe support should feel approachable. Whether that looks like therapy, medication management, trauma work, family support, children’s services, or simply walking through the door for the first time, we’re here to meet people where they are.

No shame. No pressure! Just support.

If you’ve been wondering whether medication management might be helpful for you or someone you love, our team would be happy to answer questions and help you understand what that process can look like.

You don’t have to figure it out alone.
